Mount Lowe Railway Hike

Joe and I went on a hike Thursday, Nov 3. It had been a few weeks since we had hiked. We wanted a long one, so we chose this one. It has quite a history. In the 1900's, there was a train that went up this mountain most of the way. Some of the remnants remain of the train, the hotel and other buildings. This trail took us to Echo Mountain, where the hotel was, and then to Inspiration Point where the "World Famous Telescope View" is. The hike was 11 miles with an elevation gain/loss of 2800'. It took us 4 1/2 hours, not including the stops to sight see. It was hot and then cold, depending on if we were in the sun or not and what elevation we were at. It was very fun. We would recommend it and we would like to do it again. It is on page 231 in Afoot & Afield Los Angeles County Hiking Guide.

This is a picture of what it use to look like and the remains.

Hotel remains.

This is an echo machine that we couldn't get to work.

That is where is are going...Inspiration Point.

This is evidence of the station fire in 2009.

Just a cool photo.

Great time with new friends and old

Sunday, Oct 30 we had the privilege of having the Chow family, part of the Moore family and Donovan Drew here for lunch and fellowship. The Chow family is here in the US from the UK for Chiwah to attend seminary at the Master's Seminary. I met Lisa almost 2 years ago. We co-led a Bible study together and have continued our friendship since then. Donovan visited our church to give an update 1Hope and Muphamuzi Baby Home in Pretoria, South Africa. It is a wonderful ministry who helps the refugees and orphans and shares the Gospel! He and his wife (and soon to be delivered baby) will be going to South Africa next Spring. It was so great to get to know Donovan and his plans and to see what God has planned. Pastor Joel, his wife, Tracy and 3 of their children also joined us...what a great time.

Old Mt. Baldy Hike - - - July 30, 2011

Hiked this  mountain with my wonderful hubby. We hiked an elevation gain of 3564 feet. Starting at 6500 feet and reaching the summit at 10,064 feet. 11.4 miles in 5 hours! So fun! There was thunder and lighting at the top, but we didn't get any rain. Fun Info- Mt. San Antonio is the higher than the highest point in 37 states.

On our way up the fireroad. We chose not to take the ski lift up, so we could save a few bucks and get more hiking in.

Up up and more up

Ok, this is getting hard. I wasn't sure if I was going to make it. Joe was doing just fine.

This is what we saw as were approaching the top.

We made it!

We could see the rain coming and here hear the thunder, but we never got rained on.

Heading down. We ran much of the way.
