Old Mt. Baldy Hike - - - July 30, 2011

Hiked this  mountain with my wonderful hubby. We hiked an elevation gain of 3564 feet. Starting at 6500 feet and reaching the summit at 10,064 feet. 11.4 miles in 5 hours! So fun! There was thunder and lighting at the top, but we didn't get any rain. Fun Info- Mt. San Antonio is the higher than the highest point in 37 states.

On our way up the fireroad. We chose not to take the ski lift up, so we could save a few bucks and get more hiking in.

Up up and more up

Ok, this is getting hard. I wasn't sure if I was going to make it. Joe was doing just fine.

This is what we saw as were approaching the top.

We made it!

We could see the rain coming and here hear the thunder, but we never got rained on.

Heading down. We ran much of the way.

Soup for friends and family

I made some delicious soup for my family and an older sweet couple from Germany. The husband is not doing very well physically and I wanted to show my love to them. The soups don't look as good as they tasted.

blessings x4 x2

Blessing x 4. We were given the blessing of housing 4 wonderful girls from Master's College for 4 nights. We usually only spent time with them in them morning as they ate breakfast and got ready to head out and serve our church body by trimming trees, doing other cleanup at the church building and helping other families in the church. This is the third time we have be given this opportunity and look forward to it again. I enjoy having our quiet home made more lively even if it is just for a short time.

Kim, Kaycie, Emily, and Natalie

Blessing x2. I got a double oven and it is installed! We have had it over 2 months and it was installed today by 4 very strong men. Thank you Derick, Steven, Ron and Joe! I hope to cook many meals for my family and many others!

A Beautiful Day for a Hike

It has been raining, cloudy and cool for a few days. Today there is a cool blue sky, the air is crisp, and the sun is warm! Great day for a local hike. Joe and I got a later start then usual since it was cooler then usual. We started our hike at 11:30. Today we are hiked a loop with a little detour. It was a our 9 miles. We parked on the Old Road right by the entrance of Rice/East Canyon. To make it a loop you have to walk south on the old road about 1.5 miles. This is the only part that is not vary enjoyable, but not bad. We crossed over the freeway and up a fire road (Weldon Road). The road is well maintained, but since there was a lot of rain recently, the road was sometimes very wet. We took Weldon 4 plus miles to another road that lead south to Mission Point (part of O Melveny Park). We walked there and back to this point and then took East Canyon back to our car. We are planning on hiking it again.

Started at elevation 1440', trail head to Mission Point 2580', Mission Point 2771', end of trail 1440'
total elevation increase 1331'. 9 miles, 3 hours and 35 mins.

Crossing the 5 fwy, not the prettiest sight.
