It has been raining, cloudy and cool for a few days. Today there is a cool blue sky, the air is crisp, and the sun is warm! Great day for a local hike. Joe and I got a later start then usual since it was cooler then usual. We started our hike at 11:30. Today we are hiked a loop with a little detour. It was a our 9 miles. We parked on the Old Road right by the entrance of Rice/East Canyon. To make it a loop you have to walk south on the old road about 1.5 miles. This is the only part that is not vary enjoyable, but not bad. We crossed over the freeway and up a fire road (Weldon Road). The road is well maintained, but since there was a lot of rain recently, the road was sometimes very wet. We took Weldon 4 plus miles to another road that lead south to Mission Point (part of O Melveny Park). We walked there and back to this point and then took East Canyon back to our car. We are planning on hiking it again.
Started at elevation 1440', trail head to Mission Point 2580', Mission Point 2771', end of trail 1440'
total elevation increase 1331'. 9 miles, 3 hours and 35 mins.
